Is it possible to download the waypoints stored in the Garmin Pilot III
and/or the GPS 92 and then upload them to a newer unit, such as a 296
using the power data cable?

I've used GPSMan http://www.ncc.up.pt/gpsman/ to manipulate my III+
waypoint database. It can probably do what you want. I would guess
that any garmin GPS manager program can do it.

http://www.easygps.com/default.asp is free and works on several GPS
units.

Such as? You don't get a waypoint manager program with an aviation GPS.
Do you have a link?

http://www.easygps.com/default.asp but only found try it for 30 days
they use the word free all over the site but 30 days free is not free
software or am i missing something here
tom

It looks to me that "ExpertGPS" and "GeoBuddy" are 30 day trials. I've had
easygps http://www.easygps.com/latest.asp installed for a lot longer than
that...

Try this one for MS Windows:

www.tapr.org/~kh2z/Waypoint

It hasn't been updated in years but should be all you need to migrate
from one GPS to another.

And it still works, too!

Another place to look for something that'll work with your Pilot (I
have one also) is

vancouver-webpages.com/peter/idx_garmin.html
