Default Inside Cockpit Mounting of GoPro cameras ?

I was very interested in the recent posts about using HD video cameras in soaring. Several examples were shot from what appeared to be behind the pilots right shoulder.

Where and how is the camera mounted? Photos of the mount would be useful.

I have done many videos with the GoPro some with the head mount kit from GoPro, some cup mounted externally on the wing or stab. Lately I have done most just holding the GoPro in one hand. The handheld results are usually pretty good.

Any comments about internal mounting would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Jim - 77

Easiest place is usually using a suction cup mount on the canopy just behind your head. The canopy is usually flat enough down low next to the frame.

Suction cup on the flatter part of a canopy just above the rail opposite side of the vent. Gives a view of the panel and outside. I have an cheap old Chinese PNA that can be used to aim the GoPro, by hooking up the video out to the PNA input. The GoPro has such a wide angle of vision that after the initial setup it does not need to be used again, just attach about where it was last.

Jim,

I love to share this! Here I am taking my daughter up for a simple acro ride. I shot this with a GoPro mounted to inside of canopy (supplied suction cup) positioning camera at upper right corner of instrument pod. From this position the audio from passenger adds a lot to recording .. she loved it!

Hi Jim, I just gathered a little nerd selection of my GoPro setup and posted them here. It took a little time building my cup mount, but it's very flexible and doesn't require the GoPro housing. ... Aaron

Curt, thanks for sharing. That is really cool. Toward the end when you rolled out into a 90 degree banked turn my stomach was tightening up....see you Caesar Creek. Jim
