Default Retrofit ASW-19 CG hook?

If an ASW-19 were supplied originally with only a nose hook, how difficult
to add a CG hook?

TIA,

Some ASW-19s came with a CG hook. Have you removed the seatpan and looked
to see if the mounting structure is already there? Perhaps all that would
be required is to cut a small hole in the skin and mount a towhook.

Since I don't own one, that's the salient point.

Frank,

So far as I recall, the nose hook came as a later mod
on the ASW 19. I would be surprised if any left the
factory without a C of G hook.

The factory apparently made it optional. Some in the US don't have the CG
hook. Now I'm wondering if any in the US lack the nose hook. IIRC, the
nose hook can be retro-fitted? Didn't the LBA require this at some point?

many gliders, including presumably the ASW19?

I have a 19b with only a CG hook. I will exchange digital photos of
the installation if you have the forward hook.

My hook is described as:

Sicherheitskupplung Europa G 73
Werk-Nr 48208
Kennblatt-Nr 60.230/2

Frank,

A friend's ASW-19 does NOT have a nose hook, only the
CG hook. I don't know if it is a 'B' model, but I
think it is. I do know his first couple of takeoffs
in the 19 was his first time to experience a tow with
a CG hook. The takeoffs were a bit exciting.

(Is there a way to easily distinguish a 'B' model
from the previous version, other than looking at the
assorted paperwork?)

The factory produces a retrofit kit and drawings. It is available from
John Murray. It will locate a new tow hook between the front bulkhead
on the control stick and behind the rudder pedals. The kit is very
complete and is basically two wooden bulkheads, tow hook mounting
brackets, cables, pulleys and hardware for the tow release.

John says nominally about $500 for parts. CG retrofit easier than nose
retrofit.
