Excellent. Saw him perform at NKX many years ago. That energy
managment routine sure got everyones attention.

Well damn!
I'm proud to get such a compliment from the founder.
Thanks!

(What surprised me the most was the amount of noise created by an
airframe as it moved thru the air at Cherry Point several years ago.)

Another item really impressed me at that same airshow. Bob Hoover flew
his yellow Mustang in a very impressive routine. His final pass was a
low level high speed run where the announcer said, almost quoting "listen
to that Mustang roar".

Afterwards Corky Fornoff flew the F8F Bearcat. Must have been a
personal friendly rivalry between Bob and Corky because Corky flew the
exact same routine. Same except he got off the ground quicker, climbed
steeper and quicker, made tighter turns, etc. His finale also being the
high speed pass but this time the announcer said, again almost quoting
"last time you hear the Mustang roar, now listen to the Bearcat growl!"
If I recall correctly that Bearcat came by 50+ knots faster.

I think he's still alike and kicking, but the FAA took his ticket away
a few years back (he's in his 80's IIRC0.

His show was an absolute marvel. Saw him at Glenview, Oskosh, and
Corpus Christi.

We had a film and/or tape of him taken from inside the Shrike when I
was in VT-28. He pours a glass of iced tea during the routine.
Watcing the tea pour up while you see the aircraft performs a perfect
barrel roll is quite a sight!!!!!

I have his Biography and a couple of pilots that tried to imitate his
routines crashed in the attempt

Perhaps 20 years ago I read a book by a physics prof who had been a
Naval Aviator, who did air shows in his F8F, and who was killed in the
F8F. I've been trying for years to remember his name.

I don't think it was Fornoff. Can anyone tell me his name?

Thanks. vince norris
