Default Fuel consumption rates for MZ34 engine?

Hi all....

I understand that one model of the MZ 34 single cylinder two stroke engine is
designed and used in motor gliders....

And I was wondering what its fuel consumption rates were at various HP outputs
as well as what its max continous HP output is...and I am particularly
interested in its fuel consumption rate at the 3 to 5 HP output rate...

Also, would it be detrimental to engine for it to run at those low rates for
longgg periods of time?

How bad are the vibrations from that engine? I understand they have a
counterbalancing wieght available also.....how much does that help and how
much wieght does it add?

Any other input on the engine is also appreciated!

take care

Bill:

You should contact the manufacturer Leon Massa and see his
web page:

http://www.compactradialengines.com/mz34.html

We have a MZ35 in our Russia AC-5m and like it but we do not
run it at low output so I have no idea how it would perform
in the low to mid ranges. (We are either climbing on more
or less full power or have it shut down .) The MZ 35 is
basically an MZ34 with a different carburetor.

We do have considerable vibration at certain low rpms but I
think that that reflects the fact that we have a single
cylinder, low mass engine driving a two bladed prop which is
essentially the least favorable set up for vibration.

My partner and I used to spend considerable time making sure
our prop was very accurately balanced when our 2 cycle,
ulltralight guru Mike Jacober took us aside and said "Are
you two nuts?... Of course its going to vibrate even if the
prop is perfectly balanced. Its a light, powerful single
cylinder engine whose moving piston is a considerable
percentage of the engine's total weight, its driving a two
bladed prop, and its mounted on a lightweight pylon."

Our vibration is mostly at the low rpm end and we no longer
worry about the vibration, we just try to limit low rpm
operation. We do enjoy its smooth operation at the top end
when we are climbing.
