Some shaped charges in the San Andreas fault and you can tow what is left out to sea; park it half way to Hawaii to it would serve a useful purpose.

Whoo Hoo! Havasu city gets a real beach!

Or just rejoin Mexico, that'll make our food (and movies?) cheaper... The Fence would have to be a bit longer, though.

You are correct. I meant secede. With an economy the size of the UK and
France put together it could do well in a free trade world.

If Cal is so rich why can't they maintain their dams?

That is undeniable.

Unfortunately, the voters in California are some of the most statist, anti free trade in the world.

I vote with Kirk. Wonder if enough of us vote we can force them to exit?

Well, Howard. They are all in favor of "Majority Rules", so I would guess that if the US took a vote, the rest of the states could vote California out.

Having grown up (if men ever really grow up) in Idaho, but being a 30 year resident of California, I can tell you I am very happy here. Three reasons the weather, the weather and the weather. It is freaking perfect! Sure, we have landslides, earth quakes, wildfires and riots, hell if we had a volcano we would be a full service disaster center. State government can't decide if it is red or blue, certainly highly regulated, but did I mention the weather?

Not so much this year, but for the first ten years I lived in San Diego, my senses were not refined enough to distinguish between summer and winter. Couldn't figure out why the beaches were empty after Labor Day. After years of practice I can now tell the differences between summer and winter. Winter usually has colder nights, you might need a light jacket a few nights a year, and water temps are lower, wet suit recommended for swims of over 30 minutes from thanksgiving to Presidents Day. As I type this it is 69 degrees and sunny, similar for tomorrow and most days of the year. I am going wherever the state goes.

Throw all the flames you want, I am staying with the perfect weather. Not humid, not too hot nor too cold.

Sounds like where I grew up, 100 miles or so north of Auckland in that long narrow peninsular.

Sadly there aren't many of my kind of job there, but there is a decent gliding club.

Some states are givers and some are takers. Seeing as Ca falls into the 'giver' category my guess is if that money went into shoring up local infrastructure like dams and bridges instead of subsidizing 'taker' states the money would be there for such upgrades.
