P-8
What is the word on the P-8? With the war in Iraq, is the funding being
pulled for war materials? |

Still on target according to this US Navy web page last updated in
August 2005. http://www.navy.mil/navydata/fact_di...&tid=1300&ct=1 You know it won't be operational until until 2012-13? Did someone tell you that the USN was shutting it down because of the war in Iraq? Don't believe the hype. bdpopeye |

It's exceptionally rare for engineering funds to be diverted to war materials in any substantial way, absent major programatic action (i.e. cancellation of an entire program). -- Andrew Toppan --- --- "I speak only for myself" "Haze Gray & Underway" - Naval History, DANFS, World Navies Today, Photo Features, Military FAQs, and more - http://www.hazegray.org/ |

Unfortunately, the international parters are dropping like flies; only Italy is left, really. (Italy is looking at both P-8s and a 737-based AWACs, avvording to AvLeak). With the demise of the Army-led ACS airborne electronic intelligence program seeming increasingly likely, I would not be surprised to see an EP-8 version proposed soon. The marginal cost increase compared to a larger regional jet like the EMB 190 won't be huge, and the commonality would be nice for both training and support. -- Tom Schoene Replace "invalid" with "net" to e-mail "Our country, right or wrong.
