Default Another bit of history gone....

The last vestiges of the first concrete runway ever used in the US
have just been destroyed. Due to renovations that Ford Motor Company
is doing to its Dearborn Proving Ground (which is built on the old
Ford Airport) any traces of the first all concrete runway are no more.
I find this kind of sad. Last year I saw a Ford Trimotor and other
classic aircraft land on that very runway as part of Ford's 100 year
anniversary celebration. (FMC had converted it to a high speed
straight away, with turn around areas at each end. From the air it
looked somewhat like a q tip.) I guess this is the price that we pay
for progress, but I hate to see these sorts of things disappear. I
wish that I could get a chunk of it as a keepsake……
