Default Changes At KPHX

Greetings All...

Returning to Sky Harbor yesterday (via commercial carrier) I noticed that
the ramp area and buildings at the west end of the field were abandond and
were surrounded by chain-link fencing.

I've read/heard that Sky Harbor in Phoenix is pretty GA "unfriendly" so I
guess they've driven the final nail for all GA services at Sky Harbor?
They've lost a centrally located dispatch point for medivac chopper flights
too.

It was ironic that our 757 pulled off the active behind a taxiing Mooney
who, I guess, had nowhere to go.

Anyone know more about what's going on at Sky Harbor in Phoenix?

Regards,

Ramp renovations, and the West end has been a dedicated cargo area for some
time now.

You don't want medivac in a central location like that..especially a busy
traffic area. Better to have them up in Scottsdale for the north side),
Chandler for the south side and east sides and Glendale for the west sides,
not to mention the sixteen hospitals in town that have helicopters.
flights
too.

With so many better place to fly in/out of in the vicinity ,why would a GA
pilot go into PHX? That's like having your mother drive a station wagon in
the Indy 500. :~)

Cutter Avaition, or Swift.

I should say that "some time now" is like, oh...15 years. Those renovations
might be a conversion since the cargo flights are moving over to Willy.

Tom,

Thanks for the additonal info.

I travel to KPHX several times a year and have not experienced any problems
concerning GA services. As far as I know, there are still two
FBO's, Cutter and Swift, operating on the west end of the airport. ( Cutter on
the South side and Swift on the North)

An update to my previous post:

I arrived today at PHX and discovered that Swift Aviation has moved to the
south side of PHX next door to Cutter Aviation. Swift's new facility looks very
nice.

I do not understand the comment of PHX being GA unfriendly. The quantity and
quality of FBO service appears unaffected by the construction on the north side
of the airport.
