Default Arctic Front vs. Gulf of Mexico

Maybe it's just me, but I've never seen a satellite like this. This is the
visible GOES East 01/02/2008 12:29 PM. The front seems to feather the
clouds and I'm not sure why they disappear over Florida.
Anybody know?

The clouds behind the front are not disappearing over Florida, they are
forming over the warm, open Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Ocean as the very
cold, dry air interacts with warmer, moist air. High winds are pushing the
high altitude clouds southward away from the coast. The frontal zone itself
is preceded by lower altitude clouds with precipitation, etc. with wind
moving typically SW to NE. This time the front was followed by winds from
approx due north, straight down the peninsula, giving us some really cold
air, having not passed over water as usual before it gets to us in Central
Florida.
