WooHoo!!!...finally got my wish today...I met the Captain of the
Gimli Glider! (Bob Pearson).

I've always been fascinated by that story, saw the film, read the
book, read the Reader's Digest short story, etc..

Bob has a cottage here on PEI and I have a friend who knows him
(he worked for Air Canada when Bob was there). Anyway Bob has a
sailboat here at the Yacht Club in town and a bunch of us,
including my friend, was there having lunch today... great!!...
never gonna wash my right hand!!...

Did you know it was the 20th anniversary a week ago on the 23th?

There is a story at;
http://www.casa.gov.au/avreg/fsa/03jul/22-27.pdf

Must have been an interesting afternoon. I'm jealous.

Phil

T'was indeed Phil. Nice chap, quite cordial. Thanks for the
article too, didn't realize that it was an anniversary, he didn't
mention that. Didn't seem to mind talking about it though.

Yes he is (he's abt my age - near 70) and looks hale and
hearty...

And does he still fly gliders?

Forgot to ask him, he has a nice sailboat though...
