Well...yeah! A little snow in June beats sitting in your basement under a
tornado watch :-)

Hey Jack,
Quick, check the Doppler - here comes an earthquake.

Oh wait, (silly me) ...you can't really see those things coming, can you?

Depends. Talking to a guy who works with my wife: Said he was heading
south on one of the East Bay freeways that afternoon and there was
this dark line moving up the road toward him. Turns out that was the
crrest of the first wave and it gave him a little toss. then there
was another line.

They don't do much damage until there's something resonant they can
shake. I had to explain to a guy once why he didn't really want a
brick house in California.

But.

I'm just back from motorcycling with a friend through the Sierras to
the high desert and back. (For Jim: 88 to Markleeville then 89 over
Monitor Pass to 395. RON in Bridgeport and back on 120 through
Yosemite.) I wouldn't live anyplace else but here.

My grandfather had a well stocked bar in his storm cellar. Often times, he
would call in false tornado sightings.

Yeah, I did roughly that same route a year ago in the Miata with the top
down. California may be goofy in a lot of ways, but scenery and such ain't
one of them.
