Default Ventus C vs LS6

Thread Drift warning
So I've got a LS ship
I've never paid the "Tax"
So how does this work if I NEED a LS part?
Do they hold me hostage for the many years I've owned the ship before they will sell me said Part?
Or do I just join up then?
Can I just pay for the one year I need a part?

Talk to them. If you need a part, then you need to buy the service contract if your LS was not made by them. No back years of subscription. Lots of bad information still floating around out there.

The only real issue I have is the contract is January 1 to December 31. So, if it is late in the year, and you buy a contract, you may need to buy another if you discover you need something else in the new year. But, that is pretty minor, in my opinion.

To Jonathan, you got me there. :-) I think I am down to 3 Mk IV yaw strings still in the packages.

Steve, with all due respect, I suspect you are at heart not a sailplane pilot but an airplane pilot with talk like that. You of anyone should know that any sailplane pilot flying a $200,000 glass slipper would bitch, complain, gnash teeth and get white caps on blood pressure by a charge of anything over $20. On this very site I have personally seen sailplane pilots complain about the $5 for a Mark IV! yaw string while another priced the strings at $4. There must be a newsgroup for airplane pilots?

I have much more time in the Ventus than LS, but to a certain extent think
it depends on what you want from it. In straight performance terms, I
think if flown well, the Ventus will win out, but is much more work to get
right, and can bite if you don't. The LS is easier to fly and (in my
opinion) less twitchy (particularly in 15m).

The LS Cockpit is smaller and narrower, so might be more uncomfortable - I
think the ergonomics in the Ventus are better for a larger pilot. Try
sitting in both (or better still flying if the opportunity is there) and
seeing which is more comfortable.

With no data to back this up, my impression is that when both were new, the
Ventus would have been top of the pile, but as time has gone on, the LS has
worn better, and is now more desirable with handling/feel being more
important than overall performance for most.

15 Seasons in a LS6b in eastern Canada. In weak broken thermal if you work hard
the LS6 will do better than a Ventus C in 15m and sometime in 17.5m configuration.
In strong weather the Ventus full of water will win.

One day at Ely Tom Kreyche and I flew together all day. At the time he had Ventus 2 and I LS6a.
Equal performance...
But Tom told me afterwards he intentionally ballasted only to the same wing loading I had (bags full).

33 gliders (some motorgliders and at least one with partners) according to the FAA. Could be he has a couple unregistered stashed away. This is more than I expected and more than when I last checked, which was several years ago.
