If one of their customers is preloading the PATH and also forging your e-mail, that customer appears to be in violation of even Altopia's liberal policies. See their FAQ questions on forgeries and PATH pre-loading: https://www.altopia.com/polfaq.html Then attempt to contact them and explain in what manner the post is in violation of their use terms and politely request they cancel that person's account if it is indeed one of theirs - be sure to include all the headers of the offending post. Also be sure to ask if they have a genuine peer that uses the node name ACLU.cowards.run.from.the.NOTB and if so, ask them if they can provide contact information. Yet another chowder-head. I own the e-mail address, fool, so I'm not "forging" anyone. Fair enough - I've sent you an e-mail to you at that address. Definitely don't want to get caught in the crossfire of some emotionally charged individuals. But I'm pretty sure the way I phrased things doesn't accuse anyone of forgery - it is offered advice, nothing more. I'd have offered the same advice to you if you were on the receiving end of someone's obessive attacks. By the way, if your name is not Maxwell, then it may be that posting with an e-mail similar, even if not identical, to another person's may be in violation of the terms of service of live.com; specifically: "Don't pretend to be someone you're not * Do not attempt to impersonate any other person through any means." From: http://help.live.com/help.aspx?proje...ket=en-us#faq0 I'm sure you believe that all you have to do to insure you aren't legally guilty of forgery or impersonation is to create an account name identical in all respects except the target's domain. Maybe that'll work, maybe not. Courts are costly in time and money. Frankly I think it's a dubious legal stand and I can't see any reward that merits the legal risk. It may not pay to push the envelope on the tactic. Just my humble opinion. |

I assumed it would be a wasted effort, but for the benefit of all concerned I thought I would at least give it a try. Oh do. The fact that you are an idiot is certain to provide much entertainment to the owner of Altopia. Hell, Chris has long considered invalid abuse complaints to be abuse in and of themselves, and fire off a peer-to-peer complaint to *their* provider. And rightly so. OTOH, he does take genuine abuse komplaints seriously. He and I had a 'chat' six or seven years ago about clarifying one of his policies. He acknowledged that a clarification was needed, and I've respected his limits as defined since. I seldom get so worked up that I have to bother using alternatives. -- "Tis an ill wind that blows no minds" |
