Default SSA has now paid in full all interest assessed by the IRS

I am happy to report that SSA received in Hobbs today, 1-7-08,
confirmation from the IRS of the amount of interest being assessed for
the late payment of payroll taxes for the third quarter of 2003. By
oversight, the IRS had not provided us with the figure for that
quarter when they advised us that they were waiving penalties for all
other overdue quarters in 2003, 2004 and 2005.

The figure for the final quarter was $3,980, which brings the total
assessed interest to approximately $45,000. This amount has been paid
in full. As a result, we have now fully satisfied all known
obligations to the Internal Revenue Service as well as to all state
tax and regulatory authorities.

This officially brings to an end a difficult chapter in SSA's
history. Along with the rest of the current staff and volunteer
members of the SSA Board of Directors, I look forward to a productive
2008 that will be focused on improving services for SSA members and on
protecting and promoting the sport of soaring in the United States and
elsewhere.

Sincerely,
Phil Umphres, Treasurer
The Soaring Society of America, Inc.

Good work, Phil. Dealing with the IRS is not exactly the easiest job
around. You guys deserve a lot of credit.

BTW, what has become of that criminal, Alan Gleason?

Thanks, Phil - for all of your efforts, as well as the efforts of the
other members of the SSA staff to take care of this arduous task and
"right the ship".

It is much appreciated, and I hope you are warmly greeted and
applauded at the Convention for saving our organization!
