Default Odd WinPilot Problem

I recently installed a new Colibri logger and cable set up so that the GPS
antenna could, in addition to driving my Colibri, also provide GPS data to
the IPAQ 3970 with WinPilot 7.0.

After three good flights with no problems from the Colibri or the IPAQ I got
airborne a fourth time to find a "NO GPS data" messsage on my IPAQ. I
thought it would a simple case of just dong a soft reset of the PDA but no
joy.

Maybe a Comm Port issue so I tried all 8 Comm Ports at 9600 baud but still
no GPS data. I then tried a friends IPAQ 3970 with WinPilot 8.0 but again
no GPS data. This was looking more like a wiring problem or worse another
damaged IPAQ input plug or receptacle. The guy who supplied the Colibri and
cable set up was adamnant that the problem would be software related rather
than the new cable and logger. He suggested I try a Trial Version of
"FlywithCE". Surprise, surprise the IPAQ worked again and I got a good
distance and bearing to a local Turnpoint. Winpilot however still fails to
find GPS data. The Colibri is sending all of its possible data to the IPAQ
so I have no idea what could have gone wrong with my WinPilot. Anyone like
to offer a possible cause and/or fix?

Is this pro or advanced? Are you feeding it through a vario like a
Borgelt, LX or Cambridge.

1st. Never run more than 4800 baud for Colibri and Ipaqs.

2nd. Downlaod WinPilotTTy and run that. Look at the data file and
see if everything is coming through in the correct order.

3rd. Turn off the LXWP data stream from the Colibri. Mine caused an
error in the TAS and therefore the Winds aloft.

4th. Make sure your WinPilot Password is in and correct (It will need
to be the Ipaq Specific version to turn off the LXWP stream anyway).

I am assuming you have all ready completely removed the software and
reinstalled it fresh. If not start there.

I spent nearly a year to solve mine with the Colibri, B50 and Ipaq. I
had good support from Borgelt, WinPilot and Craggy Aero.

Default Odd WinPilot Problem

Hi Peter,

Colibris default to 19,200 Baud. GPS software expects the GPS data at 4800
baud (the NMEA standard). I recommend changing the baud rate in the Colibri
and PDA to 4800 baud.

There are a few other settings in the Colibri that need to be set for
sending WinPilot data out. They are not the default settings in the
Colibri. They are detailed in the back of my Colibri Tips document which is
available near the top of the LX page he

Default Odd WinPilot Problem

I managed to resolve this problem by returning IPAQ to factory settings and
reinstalling all software and files. Everything working correctly now. BTW
to reset your IPAQ to factory settings - hold in the two outer buttons below
the screen, hold in the soft reset button below unit and hold in the power
button until screen goes dim. An extra hand would be be good. Then do
another soft reset and you are back to square one. I hope this helps anyone
else that this might happen to. Not the sort of problem you would want in
the middle of a gliding contest. Might have to, heaven forbid, learn to read
the maps again. Shudder.
