Is it really called a "can"...
Or are the guys at the FBO just f'ing with me?
The thing with the keys, paperwork, hobbs logs, etc. for a rental aircraft. What's the origin of this term? Google searches lead to nothing but other senses of the word "can" and online slang / dictionaries have nothing either. Is it an acronym? How pervasive is the term? Where does it come from? Past the can... T |

Just a small clipboard and a key years ago. Now a small bag with the POH, and same clipboard and key. |

T A lot of commercial aircraft both charter and scheduled use a metal folding book cover to hold the flight log, weight and balance report, aircraft maintenance status sheet, company credit card and other items. The can is usually designed with two covers so that the bulk of the logbook is trapped inside the covers and page in use is on the outside allowing the pilots a hard surface to write on. Perhaps your FBO also uses these cans in other operations and the term has migrated over to the rental side? John Dupre' |

Yes -- that's exactly the one. You're calling it a "can" too . Just the
rental cans don't have any company credit card. T "John" wrote in message ...
