BS

And who checks on whether I'm active or not... the local FBO?

Washington State: $65.00 registration fee for single engine airplanes.
Aircraft are not subject to property tax, but you pay a hefty sales or use
tax when you buy or first register the plane, respectively, in the state.

"Active" pilots residing in Washington are subject to an annual $15.00

fee,
which also gets you the state airport guide.

I just got the bill from the State of Ohio for the registration of my

Archer,
N2185B. Seems they need more money so the bill went from $12 (2003) to

$100
(2004). Can't believe the % increase but it's true. What do other states
charge? Is Ohio now out of line or were we underpaying before?

In Minnesota: $25/year unless antique/classic, then it's only $25 one-time.

Iowa is $35/year for older planes.

Wow! I only have to pay $1600 a year property tax on my house and nothing on
anything else I own in the UK.

Geeze . . . my property tax on my house alone is over $8000/year (the lion's
share goes to the School District, the rest is County and Town, and Fire
District, and Library District and Solid Waste Authority and Sewer District and
.. . . it's so ridiculous.
Fortunately, I am not taxed on my airplane.

In Colorado you are levied a 6% tax on the purchase price of the aircraft
the the first year you purchased it. After that no additional state tax.
Some municipalities in Colorado have tried to snoop inside hangers to write
down N-numbers and levy their own city use tax on an aircraft owner.

$110/yr "in lieu of property taxes" for my Cherokee Six in Rhode Island. Been
that way since at least 1995.

California charges 1% of the "fair marlet value". NONE of it goes to
aviation purposes!

I am unaware of any aircraft tax in Florida, other than sales tax.

At least in Ohio it goes for airports, so they say.
