Anthony (the OP) is an ex-pat American who lives in France. He is not
a pilot or physician, but likes to offer up pronouncements on a wide
range of topics, including breast feeding. A few months ago he asked
if a Baron had an ejection seat. Now, he is a self proclaimed expert.

An excellent example of an attempt at spin. Now apply that same
principle to the topic under discussion.

It'sa not spin, it's a fact.

Just like the fact that you don't know what you're talking about and the
fact that you are an idiot

Hey Anthony, we get CNN here in the states- you don't need to re-post

There are many people on USENET besides those in the (United) States.

So what?

Why would a phone switching failure imply a problem with ATC.

Because a journalist, or some other person with a motive to spin the
story, says so.

Unlike you who has no interest in it at all.

The FAA "HAD" microwave link redundancy to all their ARTCC
locations.

In the infinite wisdom of ignorant unqualified FAA bean
counters in Washington with their head up the ass of
contractors they decided to go single threaded with just
big business phone company's for ARTCC communications to
LIVE AIR TRAFFIC

At one time the FAA had communication redundancy at their
major control centers like Memphis. Now they don't. But hey
they got plenty of Diversity and Civil rights staff in the
FAA. But no redundancy for ATC communications in major
control centers.

Just ****ing stupid. No more no less. Typical Government.
Clueless and incompetent and misguided priorities.

See Katrina and FEMA

Wow, a graveyard spiral of dummity. This could get interesting. I haven't
seen stupidity reach critical mass since Tarver and Ralphie left usenet.

what about backup systems
a Microwave point to point could work, how about different feeds from
different circuits? or a SAtellite dish...

Was it truly an accident? It sure happens at a convenient time for those who
want to fuel the argument that there's something wrong with ATC. However, the
incident could be used for both pro and con arguments, depending on how it is
spun, i.e., one could argue that "ATC lacks the resources it needs," or that
"ATC needs to be replaced by something new."

Back-up systems can only work if they exist.

I explained the backup issue in a previous response. The FAA
"Had" microwave backup until the unqualified idiots decided
they did not need it and went single threaded with outside
contractors(Telco).

Current FAA Management is clueless about technical issues
and redundancy because they have filled their ranks with
bean counters and minorities who are unqualified to meet
diversity edicts handed down by feminist man hater goon
squads in D.C.

Your "Vagina" management at work. Emotional and illogical
and vindictive. Hillary in 08? God help us all.
