Default Victor Airways on Approach Control Radar?

The other day I queried an approach controller to find out how well we
are doing tracking the airway centerline. He said his radar scope does
not show the airways. I was surprised by this. Is this normal? I know
that Center controllers have airways on their radar, but it appears
that Approach control does not have airways. Is this true?

We have the airways out at the edge of the scope, about the last 5 miles
or so. There's no way to tell if you are on the centerline.

When the VAN VOR was temporarily out of service a year or so ago, I asked the
Myrtle Beach(?) approach controller if he could provide radar monitoring of our
course along the airway. He said he could, and a few miles out he volunteered
that we seemed to be tracking the airway correctly. Of course, I have no idea
what he was actually looking at or seeing.

Generally, airways are not depicted in their entirety. They are not shown
in the center portion of the display to reduce clutter, but it doesn't take
too much imagination to mentally connect the segments that are shown.
