Small plane makes emergency landing on 290
08/03/2003

From 11 News Staff Reports

WALLER COUNTY -- If you were driving down Highway 290 Saturday night just
after 11:00, you may have seen an unusual sight.

A plane was sitting on the left shoulder just east of Prairie View. The
pilot of the single-engine plane was heading from Galveston to Bryan, but
then some engine trouble began.

The pilot contacted Houston FAA and was directed to Waller County Airport.
The aircraft was unable to make it to the airport causing the pilot to make
an emergency landing on the westbound shoulder of Highway 290.

There were no injuries or property damage.

The problem was fixed by around 9:30 Sunday morning. The Texas Department of
Public Safety closed the highway and the plane took off again.

Had a nice 182 do this on the interstate near Nashville last year. Landed
completely safe and rolled off the edge of the road onto the
shoulder......then a semi took the wing off, spun it 180 and totaled the
plane

No one hurt much tho.

Reported today on Houston 5 PM TV news.

GA aircraft landed on Freeway at edge of town without damage to A/C
on anyone/anything on ground.

'Repaired' and Police blocked Freeway and bird took off.

Just what the friendly folks in Texas do for GA G
