Default Student Seeking XC Advice

Hi All...

I'm planning my Long XC and wanted to ask if anyone could offer any tips or
a "head's up" regarding this route:

First Leg:
Chandler Muni (KCHD)
Gila Bend VOR (GBN)
V94
VICKO
V16-94
Blythe (KBLH)

Second Leg:
Blythe -- Yuma (KYUM) along the general direction of V135

Third Leg:
Yuma
MOHAK
V66
GBN VOR
Chandler Muni

I'll be in a C172SP/G and will probably tackle this flight on a Monday
morning with a wheels up between 0700-0730 MST.

I've already received a couple tidbits over on the Student board, but
thought I'd ask for suggestions over here too.

Thanks In Advance...good flights to all!

Jay Beckman
Student Pilot - KCHD
38.4 Hrs ... Nowhere to go but up!

PS...thanks to all who came back and shared their OSH experiences...maybe I
can join you in the not too distant future!!

Jay
I'd suggest you have confidence in your CFI, and yourself, and not
worry about it! Your route is a simple one and pretty straightforward.
Keep in mind, you may be getting replies from people who are not much
more experienced than you are at this point?

I'm curious, you're planning your route using intersections and
airways...why not just direct routes using pilotage? Are you integrating
instrument XC planning into your private pilot training? Or is this for GPS
simplicity?

Enjoy your long XC. I remember mine very well...first time I borrowed a
crew car, first time dealing with weather challenges, first time actually
relaxing and enjoying an inflight soda...

Fly during the week when us weekend warriors are working. I did my long X-C
on a Monday and there wasn't anyone flying. It was a very relaxed flight.
Nicer than the usual New Jersey weekend airspace.

....first time pumping your own gas.

(seriously, if you've never self-served before, either learn, or make sure
you have a fuel stop and a backup where you know there will be professional
service. Filling tanks should be on the PP syllabus).

My student cross country was similar: DVT to BLH to Parker and back. I just
went direct and focused on the pilotage (pretty easy with the Interstates
and the Colorado river). You do need at least the MOHAK intersection to
stay out of R-2307. There's not much at BLH, but there is fuel, and as I
recall, it's not self-serve. Watch out for the arresting cables on the
runways at Yuma!

Have fun,
Mike
