If you go to the actual site there is a condolence book link. http://www.reviewjournal.com/obituar...obitID=4638423 WILLIAM PHILLIPS William Grant Phillips, 59, of Las Vegas, passed away Oct. 18, 2008, in an airplane crash, in Parowan, Utah. He was born July 7, 1949, in Boulder City, to William and Shirley Phillips. Bill graduated from Boulder City High School in 1967. He earned a four-year Dorothea Brinker Scholarship. He was on the Dean's Honor List and graduated with a bachelor's degree in physics from the University of Las Vegas in 1971. He earned a masters of science degree in physics from the University of Las Vegas in 1973. Bill completed his graduate course work and thesis in theoretical physics with a straight "A" average. His theoretical research was one of applying Einstein's General Theory of Relativity to a previously unsolved astrophysical problem. In 1987, the EPA sent him to the University of Washington, Seattle, where he earned a second masters degree in health physics. He became a Board-certified health physicist to study the nuclear waste repository at Yucca Mountain. He was retired from the EPA. He was an experienced airline transport pilot and passionate about flying. His fascination with airplanes started when he was 10 years old. He holds 10 licenses to fly various aircraft. Bill married Janice Lanuti Dec. 24, 1987. To those who knew and loved Bill, he was a brother, and a loyal friend. He loved children and they loved him. He was brilliant, talented, and had a great sense of humor. He was also an artist and a pianist. Bill is survived by his wife, Janice, who was a passenger in the aircraft when it crashed. She sustained multiple fractures and injuries and is recovering in a Salt Lake City hospital. Bill is also survived by his mother, Shirley Phillips of Boulder City; his brother, Robert Phillips (Lynn); two nephews, Matthew and Christopher of Las Vegas; and his lifelong friend, Dr. David Elkins. Memorial services will be held when his wife, Janice recovers. |
