Region 5N Perry, SC # 711 reporting

Default Region 5N Perry, SC # 711 reporting

When you have the chance, you just gotta do Perry sometime, somehow,
someyear. The Perry Soaring group has about 7 members. They put on a
very well run show. The meals, the folks, along with all the camp fire
talk make Perry a must. Practice day saw some good weather. Lift was
3-4 kts., and some folks flew in the blue, other choose to wait for
race day. Our weather man, Ray Galloway, received a new hat this year.
A hat for all season's and well done. He also received a T-Shirt that
said "Be nice to Ray Day". Yep, he used it several times. Day one was
booming. I got off tow and saw over 10 kts on the averager to 9000 ft.
and this was with water. All the scores and Charlie's reports are on
the SSA contest web site. I'll just past on some ramblings. At the
contest meeting on Day 4, KS, told us about Wes Tyler, who rode with
him. On the way to the first turn, Karl heard something from the back
seat, Wes said " On Course", a short while later, KS heard Wes say "
climbing good." About then Karl was wondering what was going on, turned
around, and saw Wes with his cell phone out, talking with his sister
about how the flight was going. KS was surprized to say the least. When
I spoke with Al a little later, he was wondering what kinda roaming
charges Wes was going to get nailed with. Our griding, tows, with 9 tow
planes and finishes went well except for a landing incident. I , along
with the FAA, was the first on the scene. 5U was trying to make a
rolling finish, and just had to land in a small, that's a small
clearing, hitting a tree stump with his left wing, causing a pretty bad
ground loop. When we found him, he was alright, and the line crew took
him over to a bikers bar to wait for his crew. The FAA and myself
secured the LS 1f, and felt it was a landing incident. On Friday, we
had some landouts, and I flew over to where they settled in to make
sure they were ok. I think its important, even in a contest, that when
you see somebody landing out, go check them out to make sure everything
is ok. It could be you some day, and our folks are more important than
some points on a score sheet. Friday afternoon the squall line came
thur, bring a show with it. Later that nite a real boomer came thur,
and caused alot of noise, but we had no damage. 2 years in a row, and
Perry's weather has been some of the best. Task calls were balanced and
well thought out by CD Master Charlie. The class winners of DJ in 15
Meter, KS in his duo in Sports, an K1 in Standard all did a great job
of putting together their wins. My next stop is Ely for the Regionals,
and I should be able to post more reports. Perry doesn't have good cell
phone coverage, and in order to get these reports on line, I would of
had to go out on the runway, in the dark, and type them. Trust me,
that's not going to happen. Thermal tight, Soar high, Fly safe. # 711
reporting.

His next stop SHOULD BE Mifflin for reg. 2, but he decided to skip us this
year. We will miss you Tom!!
