Default Fatal accident at Ionia soaring contest

Hi,

I am deeply saddened to have just learned of a fatal accident at the Ionia
soaring contest. I don't want to post details because I don't know if the
family has been notified. Contact me for details. I am not at the contest
but have talked briefly with contest personnel.

Default Fatal accident at Ionia soaring contest

Hi,

The news media has announced the name of the pilot that was killed in a
gliding accident at the Ionia soaring contest yesterday.
http://www.fox17online.com/news/fox1...,2470761.story

It was Tim Gossfeld, contest #: PC. He has been living in Minnesota for
several years. I got to know him and his wife Lynn and his daughter Megan
at the 2010 Sports Class Nationals contest in Parowan, UT. I am deeply
saddened by this. I keep thinking of his wife and daughter. They are in my
prayers.

His daughter Megan had been taking soaring flight lessons a year or 2 ago.
It was nicely documented he

If you knew him, please send a condolence card to the address below. I
would think that cards from soaring friends would be appreciated. I imagine
that Lynn and Megan knew how much soaring meant to Tim. They were a soaring
family.

Stefan, you should have tried harder to resist...
I hope we can learn some more details soon, as I am sure there were many eye witnesses. In particular, if this was a case of trying to stretch the glide to make it back to the field or yet another unexplained, mysterious dreaded stall spin which keeps claiming the most experience pilots.

You're right. I really didn't mean it to be insensitive, although it

If anyone was offended by my trying to mix some humor in this thread
concerning tragedy, my apologies. It's been a bad start to this year's
season. I hope we don't have any more of these tragic threads this year...

Reports say he may have been thermalling low over the field, the speculation being that it was a stall/spin from there. Prayers and thoughts for all involved.
