Default The New Google Groups Interface

You may have noticed that the new Google Groups interface includes
custom links in the right gutter based on the title and content of the
thread. I was very amused to note that the thread on gelcoat repairs
featured one advert for Gelcoat, and two for ridding the human body of
unpleasant parasites.
These contextual search engines are smarter than we give them credit.

When you click "See Your Message Here" ... it brings you to a page
explaining setup including costs ... and geographic targeting options.
Costs are based on a per click basis ... wonder if it could be used to
promote soaring contests by region so you target people within driving
distance ... or soaring clubs .... or soaring in general.

I have suggested this to the SSA for promoting the new Soaring Lesson
offering that will be appearing on the SSA website. It can also be offered
off-Google. When I did a search for a glider pilot obit from
news.google.com, it found the home town media outlet and there was a single
floating Google based 1800soaring link to the side. The cost is click based
and can be bid competitively for placement.

Mile High Gliding tried this and increased their bid to try and reach the
top spot, which seemed elusive, but IIRC they found they were bidding
against Travelocity. Choice of terms is critical if you are targeting a
specific geographical area, but on a national scale, would appearance to one
of the more cost effective approaches.
