Default surviving a broken wing

I just got this in an investor update from Borealis.

*************************
Missing pilot and plane

We are delighted to report that the plane and the pilot were found.
Dave is fine; the plane crashed and is probably a total loss as a
wing broke off, possibly from wind sheer. Dave was flying low under
clouds trying to avoid bad flying conditions. Thanks for your prayers.

Wha?! A wing "broke off," the pilot is fine and the plane is *probably*
a total loss? How low do you have to fly to survive losing a wing to
wind shear? Perhaps the wind shear slammed the plane to the ground and
that resulted in the wing breaking?

I'm thrilled that the pilot is safe but I'm amazed at what seems to have
happened. I'll leave others to comment on "flying low under
clouds trying to avoid bad flying conditions."

Here's the first message announcing the situation.

Missing pilot and plane

Our Cessna 206 is missing on a flight from Roche Bay to Rankin Inlet.
Please pray for Dave Klapstein, our pilot.
