Default escape pods prevent needless commercial aircrash deaths (1960)

What I love about this funky illustration from 1960 Mechanix
Illustrated is the carefree look on the passenger's faces even though
they are pulling like 2 gees as their escape pod drogues away from the
burning aircraft.

Moving further in the funky illustrations, I like the "Planetron"
subway between L.A. and N.Y. Perhaps the bullet train folks here in
California should resurrect it for their proposals, with a modest
scaling-down to fit between L.A. and S.F.
