LX Nav Varios, Bluetooth & XCSoar
I'm interested in connecting LX Nav varions (EOS or ERA) to XCSoar via bluetooth.
From the manuals, xcsoar config screens, and old posts here it looks like that *should* be possible. Does anyone have experience doing it? I've got XCSoar on a couple android phones and a nexxxus 7 tablet. Simply providing vario data via bluetooth would be the primary need. Ability to feed flarm or other data would be a bonus. Thanks! |

LX Nav Varios, Bluetooth & XCSoar
Hi Sam,
I'm not an expert on XCSoar, but yes, the LX Navigation EOS and Era can send vario data over Bluetooth. So can the LXNAV S8 and S80 (with optional Bluetooth module) and the S10 and S100 (Bluetooth standard). I have those all in stock. Best Regards, Paul Remde Cumulus Soaring, Inc. ________________________________ On Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at 11:29:16 AM UTC-6, SAM wrote: I'm interested in connecting LX Nav varions (EOS or ERA) to XCSoar via bluetooth. The weakest link in the chain is the Android o/s (earlier versions are worse). If there is ever a problem or a delay in pairing, then Android remembers this as a "bad" connection and won't pair with the BT device. To fix it you have to clear the BT cache and pair from scratch again. I flew with a V7 (now S7), BT module and Galaxy S3, then used a Kobo Mini e-reader with HC05 BT module. In the end I removed the LX Nav BT module and went with a hard connection (to a Boox Onyx) via a IOIO box, though I know others who have never had any BT problems and swear by them. Many problems in life come down to trying to get Box A talking to Box B. Sometimes the boxes are people Cheers DH TX |

To me that confusion seems like the Judean People's Front and the People's Front Of Judea from "Life Of Brian". It should work the same, the phone is the odd thing... With the LX Nav S100 (from down the road) I have connected a Samsung Note 4 running XC Soar using Bluetooth. Also a Nokia 8 running LK8000. Pair the phone, then ignore the OS connection. In XC Soar Config/devices, set up the BT as Device A at the same baud rate - I used 115,200. Click "Monitor" and you'll see data. Jim |

LX Nav Varios, Bluetooth & XCSoar
....And I've connected an Android phone, a Dell Streak 5, and a Nexus 7
(individually and at different times) using a pair of K6-BTs.Â* I'm sure there are less expensive devices to do this.Â* The key to getting vario and Flarm data is to use two separate interfaces in the Android device.Â* As said above, XCSoar provides the necessary drivers.Â* IIRC, the Flarm uses 19.2K baud and the vario uses 4.8K. Good luck! On 2/20/2019 12:51 PM, JS wrote: On Wednesday, February 20, 2019 at 9:29:16 AM UTC-8, SAM wrote: I'm interested in connecting LX Nav varions (EOS or ERA) to XCSoar via bluetooth. XCSoar may or may not have a driver specific to that device.Â* I use a
CAI-302 driver built in to XCSoar to drive my ClearNav XC vario. They use the same protocol where it counts.Â* Can't say about the LXNAV. XCSoar does have a driver for LXNav, although possibly not quite as functional as the C302 driver.

LX Navigation has not been helpful to the XCSoar team and so doen't get much in the way of attention from the developers. I just checked the list of device drivers in XCSoar and there is nothing with the LX Navigation device listed. On the other hand, every LXNav device I've used works with the software. Mike B. |
