1) Since these are in fact rockets why are they
referred to as JET assisted take offs?

2) Since is no glass involved why are the canisters
referred to as Jato bottles?

The true name is RAto they are in the shape of a Bottle they are caled
Rato on a prop aircraft Jato on a Jet Aircraft Because the assist the
jet to take off.

Just a big oops like the SR-71 should have been the RS-71

1: THey derive propulsion via a jet of gas.

2: They are bottle-shaped. Bottles do not have to contain glass.

We (enlisted swine) called them "JATO" as that
was the nomenclature stenciled on their wooden
shipping crates. (and on the bottles themselves)
