Default WX1000 Stormscope battery

I own a Mooney M20J with a WX1000 Stormscope whose backup battery has run out.
The factory wants $600 to replace the battery. (Flat rate repair policy.)
Does anyone know of a practical alternative? I have an electronics background
but have no technical data on the unit. Also, am I directing the question to
the right new group; is there a more appropriate forum? Thanks for any help.

If you find a *small* avionics shop interested in GA business, they may well
be willing to open the unit and replace the battery for an hour's labor and
the cost of the battery. You did not say where you are located, but as an
example Lamp Aviation in Carrolton Ohio often is willing to do this sort of
thing.

It isn't so easy.... it's not a discrete battery. Email me for more info.
