msnbc is reporting that the collision was between the glider's
towplane and another light powered aircraft, and that the glider landed safely. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/35273362/ns/us_news-life/ |

Thanks for the headsup.
This news says that Cirrus (airplane) flew into the tow rope. The parachute looks like Cirrus' Airframe Parachute System, not from glider pilot. http://www.9news.com/news/article.as...=top&catid=188 -Gen |

It says the SR-22 hit the Pawnee not the rope. The tug's weak link should have protected it if the SR-22 hit the rope. |

OK, that explains the video of what is apparently the remains of the Cirrus descending under the parachute while smoking heavily. I was wondering how a collision with a glider tow rope could cause that much damage to the Cirrus. http://www.9news.com/video/default.a...id=65219990001 Whatever the cause, this is too sad for words. But as a matter of policy I would suggest that any of you who have contact with the media bear in mind Title 14 CFR§ 91.113, particularly the part after paragraph (d)(3) that says: " ...an aircraft towing or refueling other aircraft has the right-of- way over all other engine-driven aircraft." My apologies for raising this issue at this distressful time. Thanks, Bob K. |

The glider pulled off just before the collision and landed safely, with it's three (sic) occupants. Very sad. -- Surfer! |
