Bull. If an AD is issued on something you own, you *will* find out about
it within a year. If an SB is issued on something you own, it's almost
certain that the manufacturer will notify you within 6 weeks.

Say what? I can't tell you when I ever got a Lycoming service bulletin that
I didn't go retrieve myself. Further, I find that AD notification is pretty sporadic
(I get them on things that don't apply, and don't get them on things that do).
Again, it's incumbant on me and my mechanic to obtain the appropriate
information.
