My mom solo'd a Porterfield Collegiate when she was 18, in 1941.

...to all you great Mom's out there.

We were supposed to fly Mary to Pella for the annual Tulip Festival today
for Mother's Day -- but the winds are whipping along at 25 knots, and the
ceiling is only 3500 feet, with reports of continuous moderate turbulence
along the entire route of flight.

Upon hearing this forecast, she opted for brunch at Perkins, the kids doing
laundry and the yardwork, and a nap!

Not quite as exciting as the Tulip Fest (where Montblack has been the last
few days), but I think she's had enough turbulence for one spring.

I flew my parents out to Palm Springs for the day (Yesterday) as a
Mother's Day gift. We went to the Palm Springs Air Museum and then to
a nice little cafe at the airport for a $100 club sandwich. They both
really enjoyed it. The ride in was nice and smooth, ceilings at 4400
made for a fairly low flight. On the way out of Palm Springs it was
5500 ft ceilings and the wind was gusting to 25Knots.... Straight down
the runway.... A little rough on the east of the Mountains, but
beautiful and smooth once transitioning between the pass. Talked to
her again today and she was still saying how much fun she had.
