Was there any other engine for the Lanc? I'm not trying to be smart but if
there was another engine type for the Lanc I've never heard of it.

Of course it's a bloody Merlin, thou berk. It's clearly a V-12 inline
internal combustion engine mounted on what's obviously a wartime operational
Lancaster, which makes it a Merlin. The majority of Lancs were fitted with
Merlins, and the majority of those _not_ fitted with Merlins had Hercules
_radial_ engines... and _all_ Lancs not fitted with either Merlins or
Hercules were either limited wartime editions, which did _not_ go into
squadron service in the field, or post-war systems.

The wartime BII Lancs had Bristol Hercules radial motors.

With screwdriver in hand; sure it's not a Hughes photo? ;-)

That struck me as odd as well. They have an overall uniform for grubby
work, perhaps not while photographers are about.
