It all depends where/when you wish to fly and whether you need midweek
flying or just weekends. Family with you or single gliding bum? Most clubs only operate weekends [Kingaroy does operate some Thurs/Fri as well] but are cheaper than commercial centers. Narromine club has rentals during the week during the season, as does the commercial operator there, Soar Narromine. Lake Keepit , www.keepitsoaring.com has a full-time operation through the summer and a pretty good fleet [plus pleasant accommodation and a nice Lake] but is a little way from a town. Corowa is a great site and newer gliders but will cost $$$more than Aussie clubs. Do you want really long distance flying or just pleasant cross country conditions? The weather in Eastern Australia generally moves North to South during the season - Queensland [Kingaroy, Darling Downs SC] is best in October, [can be fantastic later but risks of storms increase, shorter but fast days!] moving through Lake Keepit in Nov/Dec to Narromine - Nov - Feb [both have risk of storms or full monsoon conditions in January - or record conditions, I have done 1000km in an old Discus there in Jan] and then further South and West to Corowa, Benalla and Waikerie [plus new German operation at Stonefield in South Australia] in January-February. 1000ks possible at Keepit, more regular at Narromine and becoming downright common at Corowa [lots of Europeans trying there though!] and quite possible at Benalla and South Australia. [last Nationals at Waikerie there were dozens of over 100MPH 500km flights and a non competitor did 1100km triangle] La Nina weather this year may be a factor like last year - we have come out of a ten year drought [Texans think they have one!] Enjoy! Second Tom Claffey's suggestion of LakeKeepit.
A bit harder to get to and you'll need a car (not necessary to visit Narromine). If you go to Keepit make sure to rent a cabin on the lake, which even has water in it these days ! Enjoy, See ya, Dave |

The right way to visit Australia: lend them your glider for Uvalde, and trade for a glider in Australia. Actually, that's a good strategy for lots of places you might wish to visit in the next few years. John Cochrane |

Why has nobody mentioned Bond Springs, north of Alice Springs? Is it still
around? I flew there a few times in the 80s when I was in Alice on business. "Dave Nadler" wrote in message news:26368733.33.1321319357631.JavaMail.geo-discussion-forums@vbak12... More on Bond Springs - in the 80s they had a couple of Twin Larks and a
2-spool winch with a very long cable. IIRC it was about a mile long and release was around 2,500 ft. Of course, my memory may be faulty!
