Default icom ic-a5 and ear buds

Before I break down and purchase a headset adapter for my IC-A5, does anyone
know if a standard headphone plug of the correct diameter connected to ear
buds would work with this unit? I'm wondering if listening with the earbuds
under a standard aviation headset and talking through the microphone in the
IC-A5 would do in a pinch.

No, will not work. I've tried it. Get the headset adapter.
