Default Vertex 220 for homebuilt

I've got a homebuilt that needs a radio. External antenna, no
electrical system, headset with PTT. Looking at the ICOM A6 then came
across the Vertex Standard 220 and it looks like a little better radio
for the money. Anybody try one yet?
