Default And you thought aviation reporting was bad!

The next time one of these meatheads criticizes a politician for ignorance
about basic geography, remember this article:

BLAINE, Wash. (AP) - The biggest northern border crossing west of Detroit
was closed Monday after Canadian guards found explosives in a car entering
the country from the United States, Canadian customs officials said.

They did not specify what type of explosives were found.

OK, I'm probably missing something obvious, but what is it?

It's more likely careless reading than ignorance of geography. Remember, a
headline isn't written by the author of the associated article. So what
probably happened was that some editor saw "border crossing west of Detroit"
and assumed that it meant *just* west of Detroit, and wrote the headline
accordingly.

West of Detroit is the wonderful town of Ann Arbor.

Now, when it comes to Detroit, they might have a border check station...

Well, the headline is obviously the product of an idiot, but it's quite
likely that Blaine, Wash *is* the biggest northern border crossing west of
Detroit. Not many big border crossings in the west, and I believe Blaine
is somewhere near Vancouver B.C.

Just to confuse things, Canada is south of the border from Detroit.
