It would probably be a net win for you actually, since you wouldn't have
to pay NV property tax on your airframe. Oregon is pretty
aviation-friendly relative to most states, except for the weather.

you are probably correct in that assumption... but for the weather.. you
don't have to shovel sunshine... and the rain/fog is not a problem in
Southern NV

No take-over whatever. You submit your name, address, and I forget what
else but not a lot, plus the fee ($16/2 years) and they send you a card.
I have heard of no penalties, so far, but last legislative session, the
DoA was trying to get some teeth in enforcement written into the law.

Your federal certificate is still valid, of course.

The money goes to the Department of Aviation (not the general fund - we
have a semi-independent DoA) for search and rescue. Pretty cheap, if you
ask me, and certainly for a good cause.

Pilot registration???

Is this another case of States trying to take over Federal government?

and does that mean my Federal Pilot certificate is not valid in that state
if I don't pay their registration??

doubt it.. remind me not to move there...

ahh.. the contributions to a "good cause" that becomes mandatory on everyone
else.. and although just "peanuts" now.. once "teeth" get into it.. the true
cost of SAR goes into the calculations..

My Federal certificate is valid without a state certificate.

$110/yr "in lieu of property taxes" for my Cherokee Six in Rhode Island. Been
that way since at least 1995.

I just got the bill from the State of Ohio for the registration of my Archer,

(2004). Can't believe the % increase but it's true. What do other states
charge? Is Ohio now out of line or were we underpaying before?

California charges 1% of the "fair marlet value". NONE of it goes to
aviation purposes!

I am unaware of any aircraft tax in Florida, other than sales tax.

At least in Ohio it goes for airports, so they say.

Here in Montana you are billed by, and send the money to, the
Aeronautics Department. They use the money for all things aviation.

Wow! I only have to pay $1600 a year property tax on my house and nothing on
anything else I own in the UK.

Geeze . . . my property tax on my house alone is over $8000/year (the lion's
share goes to the School District, the rest is County and Town, and Fire
District, and Library District and Solid Waste Authority and Sewer District and
.. . . it's so ridiculous.
Fortunately, I am not taxed on my airplane.
