I run at 1200x800 all the time.
Set your screen to 1200x800 before starting the sim.
Start FS and go to OptionsSettingsDisplayHardware
You should see your video card listed.
Under Display Resolutions click on 1200x800x16 or 1200x800x32

see if this is the correct proportion.
