OK folks.

Nominate your favourite B&B in the Oshkosh area. This is our first trip.

Skip the B&B and stay in the North 40. Sorry, but camping with your plane
is the only way to really experience OSH.

Take it from someone who's attended 25 years in a row -- 15 driving (and NOT
camping in the North 40), and 10 flying in.

B&Bs are wonderful...the other 51 weeks this year...

The Green Fountain out in Waupaca. www.greenfountaininn.com I recommend it
highly ONLY if you have ground wheels; it is a 45 minute trip from the
field.

Darryl, if you are reading, chime in here. Was the place OK by you two?

Can't comment on the B&B situation, but I've gone twice on short notice
(booked hotel within 3 weeks), and stayed at a Hampton and a Holiday Inn
Express. One time I was south, the next time northwest of the show. Both
times it was about a 45 minute drive to Oshkosh, and the hotels were
excellent.

I didn't consider the drive much of an impediment at the beginning and end
of the day, but I only attended the show for 2 days - enough for me to see
everything I wanted.

BTW, if Springbank is anything like the south end of Calgary today, I
wouldn't count on putting in any air time today ... Last weekend I was
raking the lawn in a t-shirt and shorts, today I'll be shoveling snow (a lot
of snow).

Would all of the hotels in the northen 'burbs of Milwaukee be booked
by now?

After visiting SNF last weekend I was wondering if it was too late to
find a hotel for a trip to OSH this year.

A 1.5 hour or so drive wouldn't be too bad. It took me 3.5 one way for
the drive to SNF.

Ha! 79 degrees last Saturday, about 40 degrees today. At our house in the last
two hours, we've had sun, rain, sleet, snow, and hail. All we need is a
thunderstorm and a tornado to round out the day.

Gawd, I love Seattle.....

There are lots of rooms available an hour or less away. All the major
chains have online accomodation checks that will let you specify a location
and range you're willing to travel.

???

You've got *at most* 12 hours to see OSH each day. We usually do six
10-hour days, and NEVER see everything. Never. Personally, I'm ready for
a cold beer and a lawn chair after the daily airshow, which means 6:30-ish.

You want to add 3 hours to the day *driving*? That's a lot of wasted time
that could be spent hangar flying at Friar Tucks...

Buy yourself a queen-sized inflatable bed. They're marvelously comfortable,
don't leak air (like the old air mattresses did), and have completely
changed camping for the better. Pitch a good-quality tent, and you will not
only save yourself money, your Oshkosh experience will be enhanced ten-fold.

Trust me, I spent 15 years staying "off-field", and there is simply no
comparison.
