Academy will reconsider whether to grant victims confidentiality

AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. – The Air Force Academy will reconsider its
plan to deny rape victims confidentiality after an independent
commission said such confidentiality could be crucial in solving the
academy's sexual assault scandal.

"The Fowler Commission has asked us to go back and look at that
confidentiality. We will do that," academy Superintendent Lt. Gen.
John Rosa said at a news conference Thursday.

Former U.S. Rep. Tillie Fowler of Florida, head of a congressionally
mandated commission that investigated the scandal, said she fears that
without confidentiality, female cadets will not report attacks for
fear it will hurt or even end their careers.

Dozens of former cadets have said they were punished for reporting
attacks.
