I have some spare time and am interested in driving up to Fallon to see
what goes off up there.

Can anyone let me know what kind of flying takes place there and what
(and where) you can see? Any frequencies would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Most of the units that are there flying are transients... just using the
ranges for combat maneuvering and bombing / gunnery.. There is probably
no telling what squadrons are there - unless you have a relative in one of
them, or are dating the Base CO's secretary..... LOL.

This time of year (Spring) or fall is better suited to seeing more
aircraft flying in the area, for the simple fact that the heat in Fallon
sucks in summertime... so the base gets a lot more visitors in cooler
weather.

I know due to having been there quite a few times during my time on active
duty.

They used to have a Casino in town that would send a van to pick up
Sailors and Marines right at the BEQ for free, I believe it was called
Mom's...

They had a great cathouse called "The Lazy B" (Rest Ranch)... near by....
you could call them and they would pick up groups of four or more with a
limo at the front gate. At they did back in the 1980's...

The huge and old, Naval weapons depot at Hawthorne is just south of
there.... you can still see all the bunkers
(Thousands of them) from the highway.

USN version of Nellis. All USN strike warfare training and development
there. Not sure you can even get on the base as a civilian.

The Naval Strike and Air Warfare Center is at Fallon.
One of its units, Strike Fighter Tactics Instructor school is
known popularly as Top Gun.
Maybe you've heard of it.

Maybe you have heard of USAF Fighter Weapons School also, located at
Nellis
