SAA v EAA?
I jsut picked this up on another group. Comments?

I belong to several Experimental Aviation e-mail lists and have, throughout the years, heard a common complaint that the EAA is not supporting Experimental Aviation like we would expect it to. But there is another organization out there, the SAA, that IS doing as EAA use to do. Like the EAA, the SAA was founded by Paul Poberezny (who is currently the President), and is a "grass roots" experimental aviation resource. http://www.sportaviation.org/ Over the past weekend I heard a rumor that they might be shutting down, due to lack of interest. I sent them an e-mail and here's part of the reply: (my question was specific to renewal) "The Board will be meeting next month to determine the future direction of the organization. Until that final decision has been made, we have elected not to accept any renewals for 2006." So if I may be so bold, it's time for us to collectively to PUT-UP OR SHUT THE HECK UP! If you are a current member, please send a letter of support and recruit 5 new members, today! If you are NOT a member, then BECOME ONE!!! RIGHT NOW!!! There's no excuse. The infrastructure is in place. The staff is on-board. Everything is in place for the SAA to be everything you want or need it to be. The ONLY thing lacking is YOUR SUPPORT!. Without your support, SAA may be gone, soon. Although I'm a loyal member of the EAA and feel that the direction they are taking is beneficial to general aviation as well as sport aviation and SP/LSA (and they certainly have my support with all of that), their return to grass-roots Experimental Aviation is just not going to happen, no matter how many letters we send. If we want to belong to an organization that's dedicated to people like you, building stuff with your own hands, in your own garage, even if it's just dreaming about taking on such a project, it's time to stop complaining about the EAA and actually DO SOMETHING!!! SSA is a squabble between Paul and his Son Tom, the old guard and the EAA
as it exists today. The SAA article on canopies example listed below is nothing more than a reprint from Sport Aviation issue of April 1992 without proper attribution. They are having problems as the old guard dies off, so do the donations that support SAA. Even Ray Scholler cannot support the SAA like he once did as he lost the publishing contracts for EAA publications. It is ironic that Ray made the EAA what it is today by early support in printing the EAA magazines. Why does it have to be "SAA v EAA"??? Anybody CAN belong to more than
one organization at a time. SAA does not have dues. It is strictly voluntary (pay what you think is fair and can afford). SAA is exactly like I remember EAA during the 70s and 80s...geared a lot more to homebuilt low and slow airplanes. The SAA annual flyins (Champaign, IL) have been a hoot! By the way, where else would you get to ride around on a golf cart with Paul Poberezny and HOOT Gibson the astronaut and ask endless questions about advice for breaking in new cylinders on an old Continental A-65???
