Apache Alternate Gross Weight

The mid-50's version of the Piper Apache PA23-150 / PA23-160 POH (actually
the Owners Manual) that I've been reading lists "Alternate" Gross Weight
figures for both models of 3800 lbs, compared to 3500 lbs which is standard.
Does anybody know under what conditions you can load it up to the higher
limits or what factory installed mods are required to load it to 3800 lbs?
I have found nothing else mentioned in the Owners Manual other than "Weight
and Balance information is printed on a seperate sheet for each individual
airplane."
