democracy is a bitch huh?

Usually is.

If this were a democracy no "Negro" would ever have become an
African-American, and women would probably never have been given the
vote. For sure, the Civil Rights act would have been an impossibility in
the mid-sixties.

This being a Republic, we have continued to advance -- well, until
television ruined baseball, anyway.

The civil rights act turned the "Solid" southern Democratic states into

the
"solid" Republican states. The South deserted the Democratic party not

because
they believed in Republican principles, but because they were furious at

the
Democrats for standing up for Civil Rights..

It was the Democrats that opposed civil rights legislation.

Try not to shatter Kramer's fragile illusions. All he knows is that according
to the Democrats, the Republicans want to take away his Social Security, with
that in his mind, Kramer configures history and current events to fit.

Yeah, Art, everything you say is true except for the minor detail that it
was the republicans who pushed and supported the Civil Rights Act(s) and the
Democrats who opposed them . . . the south didn't flip republican until
much, much later.

And you of all people should know better. you were there (so to speak).
