Default Inexpensive Garmin 430/530 question

Barnstormers has a few listings for inexpensive Garmin 430/530 units
for sale. However, all these listings are for overseas sources. Has
anyone had any experience with these sources?
Thx.

Wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole!!!

eBay has been ripe with scams for the last year on avionics. After I
bid on a piece and didn't get it, I got so many offers to buy it after
all (all from the same seller) that I got tired of reporting it to
eBay.

I did follow up on the first and most persistent though. Reported him
to eBay and the FBI. Heard from the FBI that it was a whole ring in
London. But there are also groups in Asia doing the same things.

Be very, VERY careful with your money. Use an escrow service. If the
seller isn't willing to use escrow, go elsewhere. Its better to miss
a deal that saves $50 than loose $2000 on a scam.

There is no such thing as an inexpensive Garmin 430/530. I'd be
willing to bet that your looking down the barrel of a scam.

Even if it is not a scam, Garmin would probably not honor a warranty
on a unit that wasn't sold by one of their authorized distributors.
These offshore boxes are often referred to as "gray market" units.
They might be legally sold and supported in some faraway land, but not
on this continent.

Caveat Emptor!
