How long? East coast to Oshkosh

I'm flying from Western Mass to Oshkosh, VFR. I cruise
about 70-75 mph and it's about 900 sm from home to OSH.
Given prevailing wind direction, likelihood of fronts and
afternoon T-storms how many days would you allow for that
trip? I had originally planned 3.5. I d like to be there no
later than Sunday at noon, so I was leaving at dawn on
Thursday. A friend who regularly delivers similar aircraft
over similar distances thinks that's not enough time, and
suggested two extra days (leave Tuesday morn).

Anyone want to comment?

Let me say first that I have never done this in type of airplanes you are
describing but even if you had an average GS of 50mph it would only take
18hrs which seems reasonable over 3.5 days. I guess the important thing is
whether any day at OSH is different from any other for you (ie do you have a
hotel?) If not, you might as well plan on attending the early days of the
show and, if you are delayed, you can simply attend the later days.

Two years ago I flew a 45 Champ from Columbus Ohio to Lakeland Florida
(SNF), about the same distand, only north-south instead of east west.
The trip down required 16 hours over three days, with head winds most of
the trip and a half day of sitting at an airport waiting for fog to
dissipate.
The trip back was accomplished in 11 hours with steadily increasing
tailwinds the farther north I flew. Had I departed one hour earlier, I
would have made it in one day. As it was, two fuel stops required 30
minutes instead of the normal 15 minutes (first fuel stop, balky mags;
third fuel stop, had to dig out the third sectional as I had flown
farther, earlier than anticipated due to the tail winds).
Airspeed of 75 mph indicated with groundspeeds beginning at 90 and
increasing to 130 at 1000 AGL on the last leg. The return trip was on
the front side of a large low pressure system.
Watch the winds aloft charts on ADDS and pick your route accordingly.
Flying the northern route through Canada may give you better
weather/winds than the southern route through the US.
