Removing Rusted Sparkplugs

Folks - I'd like to remove my plugs and see how they look. Externally,
they look like they may be rusted in place - don't know for sure,
havn't tried to undo one. Any suggestions on how to approach the
possibility they may be rusted in place? Lots of penetrating oil? -

Best bet is to try to extract the plugs -- They're going to have to come
out sometime, anyhow.

If the threads strip out, you will have to install helicoils -- a fairly
simple task, as long as you have the proper tools. If so, be sure to
coat both the drill bit and the tap with heavy grease, to collect any
resulting metal chips.

When you reinstall plugs, be sure to use a moly-based prelube, such as
Champion spark plug lube or Molycoat -- available in auto parts stores.
Do not use too much of this stuff -- just a very thin coating is all you
need to keep the plugs from seizing. This precaution goes for
automobiles, too -- especially those with aluminum heads.

"Mouse Milk" is the best penetrating and rust loosening oil I've ever used.

Penetrating oil is fine, but you might need the big gun.
